Building Institutional Strength in Higher Education

Academics for Higher Education and Development’s (AHED) mission is to support developing countries build and expand institutional strength in higher education. It fulfills its mission by sending volunteers to work on projects in the full range of post-secondary institutions – in universities, colleges, and professional and technical schools – and in all areas of instruction including among others, humanities, pure and applied science, engineering, business administration, medicine and nursing.

Projects

AHED has a current project at the Centre for Disabilities Studies and Services,  State Islamic University in Yogyakarta, Indonesia. Please see Conversations with Volunteers for the wonderful work that our volunteer, Marion Steff, is doing there.

It has completed three projects at the University of Liberia and mounted a science education workshop there in June 2010.

It is sending two volunteers to the National University of Rwanda to aid the University in upgrading its registrar’s office.

It will have a project at the l’Université d’Abomey-Calavi in Benin to assist the University in improving its education of professional nutrionists.

AHED welcomes suggestions about projects.

Volunteer Abroad

AHED welcomes applications from working and retired faculty, staff, and administrators of universities and colleges throughout the world, as well as non–academic professionals who wish to volunteer for our capacity building projects. All expenses of our volunteers are covered.

There are no current placements.

If you wish to submit an application for our database, please fill out an application and we shall put it on file and notify you when a placement becomes available for someone with your qualifications.  Before doing so, would you please consult our pages for the qualifications necessary to volunteers for AHED placements.
