Joyashree Roy
Dr. Joyashree Roy is the Professor and Head of the Department of Economics at Jadavpur University. She has initiated and leads a number of research projects. Major ones are the Global Change Programme of Jadavpur University, which she currently coordinates, and the Nippon Foundation endowed long term SYLFF Project at Jadavpur university which she directs, and whose research programme is entitled “Tradition, Social Change and Sustainable Development: A Holistic Approach.” She worked in the Environmental Technology and Energy Division at the Lawrence Berkeley National Laboratory, California as Ford Foundation Post Doctoral Fellow on Environmental Economics. Dr. Roy has traveled widely for her extensive research collaboration in the fields of resources, energy, environment, and climate change, and she has been in the coordinating lead author’s team of several global initiatives to determine the status of knowledge in global climate change research.
She has also been involved in the preparation of the AR4 Report of the Inter Governmental Panel for Climate Change (IPCC) of UNFCCC. Dr. Roy has authored one book, Demand for Energy in Indian Industries (A Quantitative Approach), and jointly edited several books, including Environmental Economics in India - Concepts and Problems. She has written over thirty articles in leading peer-reviewed professional journals. Her current research interests are: modeling energy demand and economy-wide modeling exercises for deriving policy implications, water quality, health and demand modeling, sustainable water-pricing policy issues, sustainable indicator-estimation for India, natural resource accounting, valuing environmental services, and developmental and environmental issues relevant for informal sectors. She is interested in multidisciplinary approaches to understanding developmental issues.
