Sue Montgomery

Ms. Montgomery received her BA in political science from the University of British Columbia in 1984 and a Bachelor of Journalism from the Carleton School of Journalism in 1985. From 1981-1983, she was enrolled in Studies in Political Science and History at Universität Mannheim, Mannheim, Germany

Currently, Ms. Montgomery is the Justice Reporter for the Gazette, Montréal, Québec. Formerly, she was a columnist at the same newspaper. She has also worked as a journalist for the Canadian Press in Montreal, for the Gemini News Service in London, England, and the Toronto Star, and she has done freelance work for Saturday Night, New Internationalist, the Bangkok Post, En Route magazine, CBC radio, and Global Television.

Ms. Montgomery has extensive experience in the developing world. She has been a teacher of journalism at National University Rwanda, Butare and a journalist in Bangkok for CUSO.

Ms. Montgomery has received a number of awards and fellowships, including the Muslim Council of Montreal Media Award for fairness in reporting on issues affecting the Muslim community, Amnesty International Media Award for a story examining the plight of an Algerian refugee family facing deportation, and the International Development Research Council Fellowship.
