Jessica Schafer
Jessica Schafer is a researcher specializing in international development. She was assistant professor in International Development and Globalization at the University of Ottawa from 2006 to 2008, where she also co-directed the African Studies Research Laboratory. She holds a doctorate in Politics from the University of Oxford and a Bachelors in Philosophy from the University of Manitoba. Her research focuses on the micro-politics of conflict and post-conflict societies; environment and development, forced migration and early childhood development. She has conducted research for the United States Agency for International Development, the Overseas Development Institute of the UK, the Universities of Sussex, Oxford, and Victoria. Her publications include Soldiers at Peace: Veterans and Society after the Civil War in Mozambique, Palgrave Macmillan, 2007; Introduction to International Development: Approaches, Actors and Issues, Oxford University Press, 2008, Introduction au développement international, University of Ottawa Press, 2008, and articles for African Affairs, African Studies Review, the Journal of Southern African Studies, the Journal of Education for International Development, International Journal of Educational Policy, Practice and Research. She is a board member of the Canadian Association for Studies in International Development.
