Ailie Cleghorn

Ailie Cleghorn has been a member of the faculty in the Education Department at Concordia University since 1989. Her PhD (from McGill) is in Comparative Sociology of Education. She has combined teaching with institutional development and research projects in Kenya, Zimbabwe, South Africa and briefly, Turkey. This has involved project design, program planning and implementation, team leadership, teacher education, and classroom practice in two main fields: (1) language, culture, and literacy, and (2) early childhood / primary education. Throughout, she has tried to link local concerns, values and economic considerations with global influences on such matters as policy and practice. In each project she has combined a socio-cultural perspective with observational/qualitative methods of enquiry.
